We were on an Oceania Cruise to Madeira in March and booked an all day tour with Happy Tours.
For 6+ people we only paid 25 Euros each plus tip and were able to personalize a tour including a visit to Monte for the tobaggon ride and the standard Western tour to the end of the Island.
I paid for two by paypal in advance and recruited other PAX from the boat.
The guide was superb.
The price on the tobaggon has increased over the last few years and half of our group met us at the end of the ride enroute back to the ship.
The scenary on Madeira resembles Kauai. He recommended a great local restaurant for fish.
Will do this again on our next visit to Madeira.

We booked a full day and a half day trip with Happy Tours using the internet before our recent Madeira holiday and paid by Paypal with no problems at all.
The full day East Tour was so good that we went into their office and booked the West tour as well.
The drivers picked us up at the Hotel door right on time for each trip, and took us along minor roads to the places of interest, rather than on the main roads.
The minibuses that are used for the tours are comfortable, with good visibility through the windows.
The drivers gave us a lot of information about the countryside and also the lifestyle of the Madeiran people.
Some other local operators appear to offer lower prices, but are actually timeshare agents, unlike Happy Tours.
The bonus is that the Tour prices are less than half the cost of the main tour operators.

We visited Maderia with the Queen Victoria cruise ship.
I booked the tour online and paid with Paypal, the whole booking procedure was excellent.
Our guide met us from the ship and returned us it. We had some funny canadians joining us.
It was a very informative tour and being able to stop and see the views without the hassle of a large coach.
We asked our guide loads of questions and found out a lot about how differcult life is on the island.
I would recomend this company to any person on a cruise ship it will save you a LOT of money.
We were extremely happy with our tour and the professionalism of our tour guide, Miguel.
He was a thorough gentleman, polite, easy to understand, knowledgeable, a good driver and patient.
Our vehicle was extremely comfortable and very clean.
All the other people on the tour were also very appreciative of being included in our tour and just loved the whole day and commented that it was the best tour that they had done to date.
So take a bit pat on the back for providing us with a very enjoyable day.
Back home in Ireland after a lovely cruise, Madeira island was the highlight of it.
I cannot thank Terry enough for the wonderful trip and so much information he gave us.
What impressed us most he was so passionate about the island and not just doing his job, we will always sing his praises and when we go back we want to see another part of the island with “Terry”.
Weather wise the cruise was disappointing a lot of wind and not much sun.
In Ireland it was 21deg that week and now its 5deg freezing cold,we choose the wrong week to travel. Now it’s back to work
We open our bed/breakfast on Friday so hopefully we will have a good season, the bookings are not so good, the recession has really hit Ireland.
Happy Easter to all at Happy Tours, especially Terry
We had Rogerio pick us up at the ship and enjoyed a full day with him.
We took the WEST tour of the Island and it was beautiful.
Rogerio was very professional, very clear to understand, and couldn’t be more knowledgeable.
The mini-bus was clean and comfortable.
We had a very nice lunch at an ocean-side restaurant.
I have to say Madeira was the highlight of our 2 weeks.
Roland - visited March 2012
I went on 2 trips with this company and can't reccomend them highly enough. Not only are they propbably the most competitively priced tour company on Madeira they also offer superb friendly customer service via their office, and excellent guides. They also pick you up and drop you off from your hotel unlike some of the larger companies where you have to go to their office to start the tour. This trip I did the South-West tour which was an amazing insight into some of the lesser visited parts of the island. The stops at the Banana Plantation, the Sugar Cane processing factory and some of the amazing viewpoints were the highlight. I also did the 2 highest peaks mountain walk - Pico Arieiro and Pico Ruivo - amazing walk with amazing views. The mountain scenery in Maderia is quite stunning
We arranged collection direct from the Thomson Destiny cruise ship, but the ship was almost an hour late arriving at Funchal. However, Madeira Happy Tours were there waiting for us outside the ship as agreed, excellent! Did the half day trip to Nun's Valley for just 12 euros! Great trip, great value compared to Thomson excursion price, very informative and friendly driver. Well recommended.

Went on three tours.....Nuns Valley, rating 3 stars, West island 5 stars, East island 4 stars.......If you do just one trip would recommend the west island, though the views on the east trip were amazing.
First the grumbles.............driver was almost an hour late picking us up for one trip - no call to my mobile or the hotel. Not pleased. Also found that both trips included vivsits to cafes where, seemingly the driver had an arrangement with the owner. On the East island trip we were dropped off at a cafe and given 45 mins - what could you do but have a drink - there was nothing else to do - it was clearly the drivers intention for you to just that. On the same tour you were encouraged to eat at a particular restaurant at lunchtime in Santana - there is little to see in Santana but for about 6 lovely little houses, so again, you have lunch. Obviously on a full day day tour you need to stop for lunch....but why here ? The next stop was a lovely little fishing village where we could have easisly spent a coiple of hours - here would have been a better stop for lunch..
Grumbles aside, these were very enjoyable tours and very good value and we would recommend you do them as they give you a terrific feel for the island. The guides were also very good.

We booked the Nuns Valley tour with our family of 6.
It was wonderful - picked us up a the cruise ship with a van.
Stopped at great locations and tour guide was very informative. She accommodated dropping some family off at the cruise ship and some in town.
Great price compared to ship excursions.
