With exceptional subtropical weather and mild temperatures all year round, the city of Funchal is one you will not want to miss out on. Funchal is the 6th largest city in Portugal with high cultural and historical value for anyone who chooses to adventure in knowing more about it.
This private excursion trip will show 25 of the most popular and historical places, some hidden gems, but also some charming landscapes and abundant colourful vegetation all over town.
Be ready to live and experience Funchal’s most beautiful sights and sounds with a dedicated guide in private transportation without having to handle any sort of crowds.
The majestic Pico’s Fortress
Starting at one of the highest points of Funchal’s old city walls, Fort São João Batista, more commonly known as Pico Fortress, and ending at the president of Madeira’s official house.
Pico’s fort is a fortress that was built between 1632 and 1640 when Portugal and Spain were under the same rule. This construction was built and used to protect the people and the land against pirate attacks.
A brief stop will be made at the fort, in order to allow you to enjoy a short visit (free admission). During this stop, you will be presented with a mesmerizing panoramic view of the city where you’ll be able to embrace this beautiful sight but also capture some magical moments to remember later.
The second shortstop will be at Funchal’s Cathedral, having been built in the late 15th century, this is one of the few structures that survived the period of colonization of Madeira.
