Explore the traditional Markets with the Sunday Market Tour The Sunday Market tour is a fantastic trip to get to know a bit of the East side of the island. It is also the perfect trip to buy local products and handcrafted souvenirs. The first stop is at the typical market of Santo da Serra. Here you may buy locally grown fruit and vegetables, flowers, crafts, souvenirs, and more. There are also delicious traditional snacks and drinks to try. Next to the traditional market, there is a gypsy market with a variety of products. Nearby you will also find a public park with a wide diversity of Madeiran flora and fauna species. The park is integrated into the manor house Quinta da Junta, which once belonged to the Blandy family. The following stop is the village of Santa Cruz where you may visit the local fruit/vegetable market and the fish market. The promenade by the sea invites you for a pleasant walk. In the historical part of the city, you will find several little shops, cafés, and restaurants. The São Salvador church also deserves a visit due to its architectural interest. The last stop of this journey is located in Garajau, at the Cristo Rei viewpoint, where there is a statue of Christ the King. This majestic statue stands on top of a hill that drops into a ravine towards the sea. From this belvedere, you will have a fantastic view over the Atlantic Ocean, the Garajau Natural Reserve, part of Funchal’s bay, and Caniço de Baixo.
